Do you have a large wall that you’re looking to decorate? You can do this by hanging artwork, shelves and other pieces that are meaningful to you, by arranging the furniture so that it takes up part of a wall (think bookcases and oversized sofas), by adding moldings and other architectural elements or by using patterned wallpaper and murals that create visual interest. You can also use panoramic nature murals to fill the wall with the great outdoors. Of course, you can use a combination of these large-wall decoration strategies to achieve the layered look you want.

When it comes to decorating oversized walls, Murals Your Way recommends you take advantage of the wide range of textures and patterns available in our curated lineup wallpaper and murals. You can combine beautiful murals with shelves that display keepsakes and photos, crown moldings and trims, or even photo galleries that take up part of the wall. It just takes a little planning.

To help you envision your dream home or office, we’ve provided eight great options, all available from our online store. Each will help you create the exact atmosphere you want.

1. Go Monochromatic With Amped-Up Texture

Want to immerse yourself in a sea of blue or a forest of green? Instead of painting all one color, choose a patterned wallpaper in a monochromatic tone to create interest. For example, our Abstract Blue Map Wallpaper is a good choice for an office or den. If something bolder like purple is more your style, check out our Violet Geo-fade Wallpaper. Or opt for a true classic in our Peony Pinstripe Wallpaper or other designs with scalable patterns.

2. Choose A Bold Pattern You Love

There’s nothing wrong with showing your style! Choose patterned wallpaper with animal prints, like our Cute Forest Cameo Wallpaper or our Leopard Leaf Wallpaper. You might even like our whimsical Glamour Face Line Doodle Wallpaper for a dressing room or bedroom or a sophisticated tropical leaf patterned wallpaper. With large rooms, you can go big with your design. Just remember to choose fewer pattern repeats if you’re able, so the design stands out and doesn’t look too busy.

3.Go Big

Choose an extra-large wallpaper with a nature scene or other design. These wallcoverings include high-resolution images for large spaces measuring 20 feet or more. For example, maybe you’re adorning the wall of a fitness studio or room in your home. In that case, you might opt for our exercise, fitness, training word cloud wall mural. If you’re designing a relaxing massage room or den, consider our Louisbourg Lighthouse On Cape Breton Island Wall Mural or our Grand Teton National Park, WY Mural Wallpaper. And remember, you can always Create Your Own, so if you have a photo of a favorite place or object, you can make a mural out of that.

4. Choose A Two-Tone Look

For a sophisticated look on a large wall, consider two-tone designs in an ombre or color-block design. Our Ombre Of Blues Mural Wallpaper is a soothing design, as is our Blue And Teal Gradient Wall Mural.

5. Put Marble On Your Walls Without Breaking The Bank

Love the look of marble. Why not put it on your walls? You can do this without using actual marble. Choose a marbled wallpaper like our White Marble With Grey Veins Mural Wallpaper or our Grey Light Blue Marble Granite Stone Wallpaper. If marble doesn’t fit your needs, you might opt for another textured pattern like our Houndstooth Pattern Wallpaper or our Seamless Brick Texture Mural.

6. Add Interest With An Architectural Design

With a large space, you can really use the walls to immerse yourself and your guests in an atmosphere. For example, if you love Manhattan (or at least the view), why not opt for our Manhattan Lights Mural? Other interesting and varied designs include our Abstract Tunnel Mural, Industrial Machinery In An Abandoned Factory Wall Mural and our Yankee Stadium Mural. And as always, you can create your own wall mural as long as you have a high-quality photo of your chosen design.

7. Go For A Historic Look

If you love the look of period wallpaper, you can have it in your home — even if your decor is more modern than vintage. Blend historic looks with modern furniture and colors. You can do this with our create your own option if you have a photo of a historic print or another image. You might also choose something like our Monet Water Lilies Wallpaper, which hearkens back to 1916, or our Vintage Engraved Wallflower Border Wall Mural.

8. Add Interest To Utilitarian Walls

When decorating a wall in a large home or restaurant kitchen, or another high-traffic or utilitarian idea, you might not want to use photos or anything else that could collect dirt or grime from spattered oil or food. That’s where our patterned murals and wallpaper come in. Each is available in textured vinyl, so you can have a beautiful design on a wall you might need to wipe down often. Can you visualize a city or skyline wallpaper mural such as the Electrifying Downtown Chicago Wallpaper Mural in a restaurant kitchen? How about a sports image on a gymnasium wall, such as the Basketball Arena Mural Wallpaper?

When decorating large walls, be sure to consider any architecture, like windows and doors, in the room. Also, plan out where your furniture will go. For example, if you’re choosing one of our nature scenes, you’ll want to make sure the furniture doesn’t block a key part of the mural.

Also, consider the scale. Don’t choose a print or image that’s too small for your wall. Just like you wouldn’t choose a framed photo that’s too small for a wall, you don’t want to choose a pattern or image that’s too small. Keep in mind that many of our patterns are scalable.
